Other Produce
The season begins with yellow and green squash in early June. In 2010, we have three plantings of squash scheduled over a five-acre area, ensuring availability through the entire summer.
Long green cucumbers come next, with two plantings on five acres scheduled so the supply lasts all summer. Thirty acres of bell peppers are harvested throughout the summer. Twelve acres of sweet corn are harvested in July, while 12 acres of cantaloupes are planted and harvested in July and August.
In 2010, we also plan to grow 14 acres of jalapeno peppers and 30 acres of banana peppers for Mount Olive Pickle Company. These peppers are harvested, shipped to Mount Olive, NC, and processed usually on the same day.
Most of our other produce is sold to local farmers markets, food distribution centers such as Sysco, WR Vernon produce, Farm Fresh Markets, Foster Caviness and local grocery stores such as Wal-Mart and Food Lion.
All our produce is available at the Patterson Farm Market and is picked fresh daily.
