What is CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy, local, seasonal, fruits and vegetables directly from a farmer. Consumer Supported Agriculture is a direct connection between local farmers (which is us) and consumers who care (that’s you). Keeping farms viable is one way to assure there will be agricultural land, green space and fresh from the field locally grown foods for years to come. C.S.A’s allow consumers to come face to face with the farmers who grow the produce and know the produce.
How does “Market Share CSA” Work?
Prepaid Market Share helps our farm with annual start up costs (such as seeds and plants, fertilizers, supplies) and allows us to provide you with fresh, local produce from mid-April through mid-November).
With standard C.S.A’s, you get a weekly allotment of produce. What the farmer has an abundance of is typically what will be placed in your box whether it is what you want or could use. It is the farmer’s choice, not your choice.
For 2012, Patterson Farm Market & Tours, Inc. has developed a “Market Share” CSA program, a unique type of CSA, which lets the customer pick and choose the items they want from our farm. Your CSA shares will allow you a credit to the farm that you can use on produce from the market or pick-your-own fields, market gifts, our famous ice cream, and admission to Pappaw Carl’s Playground in the fall! This is a way to customize your share and shop for as little, or as much as you need anytime we’re open.
What can Patterson Farm Market Share CSA Members can expect?
Instead of receiving boxes filled with items you and your family may or may not like or need, you choose what you want, as much as you want, and when you want from Patterson Farm Market & Tours, Inc. We will do the financial tracking for you and email or mail you monthly statements of your balance. The biggest benefit is you save on all your fresh produce, items and events at Patterson Farm Market & Tours, Inc. all through the season or until your credit balance is exhausted.
For 2012, Patterson Farm Market & Tours, Inc. will offer two Market Share CSA programs:
- Large Share: for $450 you will receive a $500 credit at Patterson Farm Market & Tours, Inc.
- Small Share: for $225 you will receive a $250 credit at Patterson Farm Market & Tours, Inc.
Members will also receive:
- Special notifications of fresh from the field produce and events.
- Patterson Farm Cookbook
- Exclusive Members only special work/play day on the farm
